Welcome to the home page of the Carbonate Research Group based at Imperial College London

The Carbonate Research group is articulated into a core group (headed by Dr. Cédric John), and a wider network of affiliated members within the department of Earth Science and Engineering. The research themes that bring us together are both shallow-water and pelagic carbonates. Because carbonates are complex, our team is strongly multidisciplinary with expertise across the Earth sciences and engineering.

The unique composition of the team, mixing engineers with geologists, and our world class analytical facilities allow us to tackle some fundamental problems ranging from paleoenvironments to reservoir engineering. For instance, many of the group members are involved in the $70 millions, 10 year-long Qatar Carbonates and Carbon Storage Research Centre (QCCSRC) project. The project aim is to help implement carbon capture and storage in subsurface reservoirs of Qatar, a move that could significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the state of Qatar.
